However, on this particular day, we were visiting the family farm for the first time. We were greeted with a warm smile and hugs from Roger and Cathy and invited in to sit around their table. We shared a cup of coffee and were treated to elk sausage, fruit, and cheeses. We caught up on their family and shared a few laughs. As we were preparing to head out for a tour of the farm, I noticed a painting on their wall that read, “Bloom Where You’re Planted.” At the time, I did not give it too much thought. A barking dog, two excited kids and a hot cup of coffee in one hand did not give me the opportunity to linger over the meaning of the painting. So outside we went.
After soaking in the sun and playing around the yard, it was time to go. We hopped into our car with a box full of candles, lip balm, and other waxy things. Soleil and Mila thought Raven Creek Farm was pure magic. When the girls dozed off in the back seat I was able to reflect on our day. It was then, on the way home, that I recalled the picture with the quote I had seen earlier. I thought of Roger and Cathy and how they have truly bloomed where they were planted and, in doing so, left this world just a little bit sweeter.
